Miko were called in by the Head Teacher at Oxbridge Primary School, on Teesside, to solve a problem. Mrs Sue Moffitt had been told by another canopy company there was nothing they could do to provide her with a Parent Waiting Canopy which would also double up as an outdoor teaching area.
This was the area at Oxbridge before Miko designed and installed the canopy. It was simply another area of the playground but was used by the parents as the main pick up point for their children.
Miko’s engineers were able to not only provide a canopy which measured 10m x 7.5m but were also able to delight Mrs Moffitt with a solution which not only provided a large canopy within her school yard but also one which looked great with its multi-coloured powder coated finish.
The canopy not only gives protection from the rain but also the sun, with its anit UV cladding. There is now a fantastic area for the children to work and play in, whatever the weather, as well as an area for up to 60 parents to wait away from the elements.
I am writing to thank you for the work that Miko Engineering recently carried out at Oakfield Junior School where you installed an Alnwick Cycle Shelter and Scooter Rack. I have visited the school and I am very pleased with the quality of the work. I would also like to thank you for agreeing to complete the work in time for the school’s ‘Bike It’ activity week. The shelter and rack are already being well used.

Miko Engineering are not only able to provide the engineering needs that are listed on our website but can also provide bespoke solutions.
The covered walkway was completely refurbished the covered walkway by installing a new polycarbonate canopy with a stainless steel trim. The bridge also included a new hand rail alongside matching gates to the bridge.
The work that was undertaken has completely transformed an eyesore into a feature that the city can be proud of. The city is so proud of Bell’s bridge that it has been showcased as the backdrop for news items on BBC Scotland.

Miko Engineering often work with schools and councils to help solve engineering needs.
One example of this would be when we worked with Sirius Academy in Hull to design and create two cycle compounds. More and more schools are now encouraging a healthy lifestyle among students and building cycle compounds allows the students to store their bikes in a safe place. The cycle compound was made to BREEAM standard.
The cycle compound is able to store 360 bikes which shows there really is no job too small or too large for Miko Engineering to solve.
If your school or office building is looking for cycle compounds then please do not hesitate to email email@example.com or call us on 0191 428 0452.
The Hub was a street furniture project designed and installed at the new community centre at Barnard Castle. Street furniture is a great way to create an outdoor space that everyone will enjoy. It can be used for families, friends and groups of children.
Miko Engineering worked alongside the landscape architect to design, manufacture and install every aspect of the project. The street furniture package included simpler items including benches and bins to bespoke items including shelters and canopies. To incorporate the theme of families and spending time together, there was a fire pit installed for everyone to gather around which is not only great at getting everyone together but is also functional for when it becomes a bit colder towards the end of the summer.
As Miko understands the weather in the U.K can be a little temperamental, we provided picnic benches with a picnic shelter that would protect visitors from wetter weather. The picnic tables were made from thousands of recycled plastic milk bottles.
If your business is looking for a bespoke service, then please do not hesitate to email the team at Miko Engineering on firstname.lastname@example.org to see if we can match the needs your business is looking for.
Wembley High School asked Miko Engineering to come in with the aim of creating a covered area for students when they were moving from classroom to classroom.
The architect on this project designed the school with minimal internal corridors so as to save on the build costs, preferring to spend the build budget on class rooms. As a result Miko were asked to manufacture and install nine covered walkways, one of which covered an area of 186 meters square.
All of the canopies have light boxes with L.E.D.’s which look great at night.
Miko Engineering have worked with businesses in the past to create bespoke designs. These can range from eye catching pieces to impress your visitors to functional designs such as entrance canopies that stand out from the crowd.
One of the bespoke designs that has been created in the past includes this feature at the main entrance to Newcastle College Rail Academy. Newcastle College Rail Academy wanted to create a feature of the main entrance to make a statement as visitors entered. Ryder Architecture designed this stunning entrance canopy for the new Academy to create a special finishing touch.
This bespoke entrance canopy includes a 2.8m hole proving something can be eye-catching yet functional.
Miko Engineering regularly work with schools for a range of engineering needs including cycle shelters, entrance canopies and bespoke designs for playgrounds.
At Abingdon Primary School in Middlesbrough, they were looking to improve the entrance to the school building. Miko Engineering designed an entrance canopy that fitted in with the school. They did this through using the same colour red to improve brand identity of the school.
The entrance canopy has also offered protection from the elements which has improved the functionality of the school entrance.
If you are thinking about building an entrance canopy at your school or office then why not email Miko Engineering on email@example.com or call us on 0191 428 0452.
The Sill is a £14.2m National Landscape Discovery Centre, located in Once Brewed, with the aim to encourage all ages to learn about the heritage of Northumberland. MIKO are excited to be working with Sir Robert McAlpine on this project in the coming months.
Miko Engineering worked with Havelock Day centre to create a diamond shaped entrance canopy. The entrance canopy needed to not only be in keeping with the style of the building but also provide shelter for the minibuses that were transporting users to the centre.
The canopy which is 8 metres square has provided Havelock with the perfect combination of a functional and modern main entrance feature giving a great impression to anyone who is new to the centre.
This project was undertaken for Gus Robinson Construction.
Miko Engineering undertook this project for Gus Robinson Construction. Holmwood School required a larger play area but wanted something that would work in the winter and summer months.
The canopy provided a sheltered area for the children to play in and it also has good access to the outdoor play area. The canopy measured 6.5 m by 4.5 m by 4 m high and gave a large amount of space for the school to have a range of different play stations for the children.

Quorum Business Park is a regular customer for Miko engineering. We have created many bespoke designs for this business park. Therefore, when asked to create projects for them, we knew what designs would fit well with the business park.
Quorum Business Park had a selection of uncovered cycle racks which were under-utilized by their clients and staff. Therefore, they asked if we could create a cost effective shelter which fitted in with the design of the whole business park.
The shelter we created was 6m by 12m, covered by wood to blend into the surroundings. Now the cycle shelter is undercover and has become much very popular and is used by both clients and staff.
Quorum Business Park also asked for us to design, manufacture and install some stainless steel bus shelters as they had no shelters which provided protection against the elements. We created a shelter which featured the Quorum logo on the glass to fit in with their brand. There were a number of them installed within the business park.
While South Tyneside Council were building a new £11 million library for South Shields they instructed Miko engineering to manufacture a bespoke cycle shelter. This unique shelter was to have a modern twist and Miko certainly fulfilled that requirement with t these stainless steel circular cycle racks.
