The Hub

Case study: The Hub

The Hub was a street furniture project designed and installed at the new community centre at Barnard Castle. Street furniture is a great way to create an outdoor space that everyone will enjoy. It can be used for families, friends and groups of children.

Miko Engineering worked alongside the landscape architect to design, manufacture and install every aspect of the project. The street furniture package included simpler items including benches and bins to bespoke items including shelters and canopies. To incorporate the theme of families and spending time together, there was a fire pit installed for everyone to gather around which is not only great at getting everyone together but is also functional for when it becomes a bit colder towards the end of the summer.

As Miko understands the weather in the U.K can be a little temperamental, we provided picnic benches with a picnic shelter that would protect visitors from wetter weather. The picnic tables were made from thousands of recycled plastic milk bottles.

Another bespoke service that was installed at The Hub was the fabric tensile canopy which is used to cover the outdoor stage.
