The main purpose of the walkway is to keep visitors and staff protected from bad weather when moving around the garden centre. It also doubles up as cover for moving products into the centre from the storage yard to the rear at the premises.

Miko Engineering’s time at York University has come to an end… Our manufacturing and installation teams have been working tirelessly for the past 2 years to produce some amazing, covered walkways for York University’s Student Accommodation. Producing nearly 1 kilometre of covered walkways was no easy task, but through our responsive in-house manufacturing and install teams, we got the job done both on budget and on-time.
The covered walkways are part of a £130m flagship scheme to help transform Heslington East Campus. The covered walkways are manufactured from robust box section frames in modular units, allowing for lighting conduit, integrated soffits and fascia’s and lighting. There are two designs, one with a solid profile sheet roofing and another with a toughened and laminated glazed roof. All the steelwork on the project was galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461:2009 and powder coated RAL: 8022. Miko Engineering also fabricates to BS 1090 Execution Class 2.

Natalia Maximova Associate Partner at Sheppard Robson said “We came up with a modern version to compliment the buildings and to allow students to walk from their bedrooms to the social hubs “in their sleepers” (quoting the university brief). Our bespoke design was expertly executed by Miko Engineering Ltd – very happy with the result.”
